On a sunny May Afternoon Jillian and Brandon were wed in the garden marquee at Victoria Park Golf Club with myself and Josh from White Pearl Photography. I’ll let Jillian takeover and tell you her and Brandon’s story now.
It was a weekend in November 2013 that Brandon and I had a few days off so we decided to pack the tent and head down to Byron Bay for a bit of camping. Saturday morning Brandon was keen to go for a walk up to the Byron Bay lighthouse. It was beautiful weather so we put on our joggers and hiked around from Clarke’s Beach up the hill to the lighthouse. After reaching the most easterly point we walked out to the rocky lookout. I was facing out to the ocean, taking in the amazing views which included a whale breaching off shore. Brandon put his arms around me and whispered in my ear that he loved me. I turned around and the next thing I know, Brandon is down on one knee holding up a ring and asking me to marry him. I was completely not expecting it and was blown away. Of course I said yes!
I wasn’t sure where to start looking for a marriage celebrant so the internet was my first move. Josh’s website was fantastic and super helpful with heaps of detail. But what caught our attention the most was Josh’s philosophies on marriage and the wedding ceremony. His marriage and ceremony values matched us to a tee. We were looking for a celebrant who was younger and modern with fresh ideas. We wanted our ceremony to be fun and uplifting, not boring and stuffy, but most of all we wanted it to be our ceremony. Josh Withers helped us create the perfect ceremony for us. We wrote our own vows and got our friends involved with readings and toasts. We even had champagne cocktails during the ceremony.
Our ceremony was held in the Garden Marquee at Victoria Park Golf Complex Brisbane. It was brilliant as it was all indoors so we didn’t have to worry about weather and with floor to ceiling windows we still had an outdoor feel. The Hansen Trio
with piano, violin, and viola provided beautiful music throughout the ceremony. Josh did an amazing job right from our first meeting to the ceremony itself. I can’t recommend Josh Withers enough!
Our photography was performed by (a different) Josh from White Pearl Photography
. White Pearl Photography was actually recommended to us by one of my work colleagues who used Josh for her wedding about 6 months prior. Josh was recommended to her too, and after hearing how happy she was with Josh’s photography we decided to check him out. We had been to a few photographers in Brisbane but most did not have the package we wanted or were far too experience. We were sold when we first met Josh at his studio. Josh was friendly and easy to get along with. He showed us through his portfolio and we loved his shots which really captured the moments as they happened. We were also after a photographer who would provide all the photos taken in full resolution on a disk for us (without watermarks). Josh catered for all our needs and we felt very comfortable on our wedding day with him. We had our photos taken around the ceremony and reception venue and also at Roma Street Parklands Brisbane, where Josh captured some stunning shots. I have had lots of great compliments for our photographs from friends and family.
Victoria Park Golf Complex
was perfect because the ceremony and reception could be held at the same venue. Guests could relax in the lounge bar while we went offsite for photos. Everything was so well organised by the staff. Our table decorating was classic and simple with fresh flowers that we bought from the flower market. The room had gorgeous city views and guests had canapés out on the decking area admiring the views. We had a three course menu and each dish was delicious. We really wanted to have live music at the reception and we ended up finding duo ‘2Solz
‘. Pia and Nigel were amazing and so versatile, playing acoustic sets right through to the latest hits. Our guests even started dancing during canapés and the dance floor was pumping all night!
I bought my wedding dress in Melbourne and the designer is Allure Bridal
from the ‘Romance’ collection. As a lot of brides say, I ended up picking a dress which was totally different from what I originally thought I would have for my wedding dress. It is a good idea to try on a range of styles as you never know what might suit you best. The beaded embroidery in this dress was stunning. The soft satin fell beautifully and was also really comfortable.
It is hard to pick a favourite part to the day as we had so much fun from getting ready to the final dance. The most amazing part of the day is being around everyone that you love and having everyone in the same place. Over 50 percent of our guests travelled from interstate to be there for our wedding which made it even more special.
Before I flicked through glossy magazines and got carried away with everything wedding, we planned out what was really important to us and what things were not as important. This gave us a great foundation to build our wedding day. I think that it is good to be mindful that this is your wedding and you can do or not do whatever you like – there is no set agenda, you have a blank canvas, so make it yours and have fun.
I couldn’t say it any better myself, you guys are awesome!
