Podcast Guest Guide

For those of you who don't know me podcast artwork

For guests on For Those Of You Who Don’t Know Me …

You’ve been invited to be a guest on “For Those Of You Who Don’t Know Me …” – thanks for saying yes. This page tells you everything you need to know before we hit record.

What this podcast is

It’s a talk show about weddings.

Each episode is me (Josh Withers) chatting with someone interesting from the wedding world – sometimes well-known names, sometimes people doing great work quietly. It’s made for wedding vendors and couples alike. It’s casual, honest, and entertaining.

We might talk about trends, philosophy, drama, guestlists, pricing, love, gear, burnout, TikTok, or someone’s weird uncle. We’ll share opinions, swap stories, and have a laugh. At the end of it, I want listeners to feel happier about getting married, or happier to still be in the wedding industry.

This isn’t a sales pitch. It’s not an exposé. It’s just a good chat between people who care about weddings.

The podcast values

  • We’re for marriage. Not just weddings — but the meaning behind them.
  • We believe weddings can (and should) be awesome. Whatever “awesome” means to you.
  • We’re inclusive of all people. All humans are human.
  • We’re positive and optimistic. There’s enough cynicism in the world.
  • We’re happy and human. This podcast is smiley, not snarky.
  • We aim to help, educate, and entertain. In that order — or all at once.
  • We shine a light, not steal it. Guests are here to be celebrated, not interrogated.
  • We value real conversation over performance. No scripts. No sales pitches. Just genuine chats.

Why you’ve been invited

You’ve got thoughts worth hearing. Maybe you’ve done something cool, or said something that made me think, or maybe you just bring good energy. Either way, I want to shine a light on you and what you do – and also just have a fun and meaningful chat.

What to expect

  • We’ll record for around 45–60 minutes
  • It’ll be audio + video (for social clips)
  • No rigid script, no gotchas
  • You’re welcome to bring topics
  • I might bring up something from your socials or work, just to keep it interesting
  • If something goes sideways mid-recording, we’ll fix it – this isn’t live

Tech setup (important!)

We want it to look and sound good – for you and for listeners. Here’s what I’m asking for:

✅ Audio

  • Use a real microphone – ideally a Rode NT-USB Mini, or Rode Wireless Go
  • Mic close to your mouth – within about 10cm (4 inches)
  • Wear headphones – no audio bleed please
  • Record your audio locally – I’ll send instructions before the session
  • Use Google Chrome - the recording software is a website that works best in a Google Chrome
  • Free up the internet - depending on your upload speed (the 40 bit of 100/40) you might need to not be uploading things to Dropbox or photo galleries, and it might be helpful to not have streaming TV shows on if it’s a slow connection.

✅ Video

  • Face well lit – ideally facing a window or light, not a window behind you
  • Clear background – doesn’t have to be fancy, just tidy
  • Look into the camera when chatting, if you can – makes for better clips

✅ Environment

  • Quiet room. No dogs barking, kids yelling, wind tunnels, etc.
  • Mute your phone, put it on do not disturb mode. Close Slack. You know the drill.

What do you need to bring?

Nothing formal – but you’re welcome to:

  • Bring up a topic you’ve been thinking about
  • Share a spicy opinion (in love, not malice)
  • Rant about something wedding-related (if it’s in good fun)
  • Ask me a question back
  • Or just see where the convo goes

Anything else?

I’m not here to stitch you up or make you sell yourself. I’m here to host a chat that feels real and worth listening to. If you’re comfortable, relaxed, and honest, we’re golden.

If you’ve got any questions, just shoot me an email: josh@withers.co

Once the episode is public, you sharing it on your own blog and social media is really helpful. There will be a website link for the episode plus there will be social shares and clips. Your shares are a blessing to me and I welcome them.

Can’t wait to record with you!
