How Much Does a Wedding Celebrant Cost?

A national survey average can be a useful starting point, but your celebrant quote will depend on the ceremony, location, travel and level of service you choose

How Much Does a Wedding Celebrant Cost?

The national celebrant average

The national average for all celebrants of all ages, locations, and skill levels is $1209 excluding GST.

That survey figure is a broad benchmark, not a standard fee and not a quote from me. Australia has celebrants working in very different markets, with different levels of experience and very different ceremony services.

Why quotes differ

There is no fixed fee or award rate for an Australian marriage celebrant. A quote can reflect:

  • the kind of ceremony you are creating
  • preparation, meetings and ceremony writing
  • the location and travel involved
  • experience, demand and availability
  • sound equipment and on-the-day coordination
  • rehearsals, MC services or other work beyond the ceremony

One celebrant may offer a simple legal ceremony. Another may spend considerable time designing a personal ceremony, helping with vows, managing the room and working with the rest of your wedding team. Those are different services, even though both result in a legal marriage.

Compare the service, not only the average

When you compare celebrants, ask what is included, how the process works and whether you trust that person to lead the moment well. The national average can help you understand the market, but it cannot tell you which celebrant is the right fit or what your particular wedding requires.

For a personalised Josh Withers ceremony, enquire for a tailored quote. If you only want the legal requirements completed, an Australian Marriage Office may be a better fit.
