Panorama Hotel St Helens
A relaxed waterfront wedding venue on Tasmania's east coast — sweeping Georges Bay views, on-site accommodation, and a short drive from the Bay of Fires.
The Panorama Hotel sits right above Georges Bay in St Helens — the gateway to the Bay of Fires on Tasmania’s east coast. It’s the kind of venue that does the heavy lifting for you: water views out every window, a restaurant and bar already on site, and rooms upstairs so your guests can wander to bed instead of organising transport home.
If you’re planning an east coast wedding and want one address that covers ceremony, reception, and accommodation, this is a strong option.
Venue Highlights
- Elevated position with panoramic views over Georges Bay
- On-site accommodation — your guests stay where they celebrate
- Restaurant and bar already in place, so catering and drinks are sorted
- Walking distance to the St Helens waterfront and town centre
- 15 minutes from the southern end of the Bay of Fires for sunset portraits
- Relaxed, low-fuss east coast vibe — perfect for couples who want easy over formal
Planning Tips
- Travel: St Helens is about 2.5 hours from Launceston and 3.5 hours from Hobart — most east coast weddings build in a long weekend so guests can enjoy the drive up the coast.
- Bay of Fires portraits: Binalong Bay and the orange-lichen rocks are a 10–15 minute drive north. Worth building into your timeline if you’ve got a photographer keen to chase them.
- Sunset: Georges Bay faces east, so sunrise over the water is the showstopper. Plan a sunrise-the-morning-after shoot if your photographer is up for it.
- Accommodation: Rooms on site, plus plenty of holiday rentals and motels in St Helens for larger guest lists.
- Weather: East coast Tasmania is the driest, sunniest corner of the state — but still pack a Plan B for ceremony locations outdoors. The hotel’s indoor spaces handle a wet weather pivot well.
- Best season: November through April for long days, warm water, and the best chance of dry weather. Off-season weddings here are quieter and atmospheric if you don’t mind cooler temperatures.
I’m a Tasmanian wedding celebrant and I travel the whole state — happy to come to you for an east coast wedding at the Panorama.
