Tasmania's Top Wedding Venues
Discover Tasmania's most breathtaking wedding venues through the eyes of experienced celebrant Josh Withers. From vineyard vistas and historic properties to waterfront wonders, explore ten stunning locations that showcase the best of what the island has to offer for your perfect day.
After marrying thousands of couples across the globe, I’ve developed quite the eye for exceptional wedding venues. Now that I’m based in Tasmania’s gorgeous Huon Valley, I’ve had the privilege of discovering some truly spectacular places to say “I do” in this island paradise.
Whether you’re dreaming of vineyard vistas, historic architecture, or waterfront wonders, Tasmania offers a breathtaking backdrop for every couple’s special day. Here are my top picks for wedding venues that showcase the best of what Tassie has to offer.
Frogmore Creek
Frogmore Creek in Cambridge isn’t just about world-class wines (though they are spectacular). The venue offers sweeping vineyard views that create an utterly magical setting for ceremonies and receptions. Their barrel room provides a stunning indoor option with a distinctly Tasmanian feel, while their restaurant delivers some of the finest food in the state.
What makes Frogmore special is how the light plays across the landscape as the day progresses. I’ve officiated sunset ceremonies here that have left guests speechless.
Stonefield Estate
For couples seeking rustic elegance, Stonefield Estate in Richmond delivers in spades. This 1820s property has been lovingly restored to create a versatile venue with multiple ceremony locations across its expansive grounds.
The sandstone barn with its exposed beams creates a warm, inviting atmosphere for receptions, while the manicured gardens offer perfect photo opportunities. I particularly love ceremonies under their ancient oak tree – there’s something deeply symbolic about beginning a marriage beneath something that has stood strong for centuries.
Valleyfield
Valleyfield in New Norfolk is a historical gem dating back to the 1820s. This Georgian estate offers manicured gardens, a heritage-listed residence, and views over the Derwent River that simply take your breath away.
What I love about Valleyfield is how it feels both grand and intimate simultaneously. The grounds are expansive enough to create a sense of occasion, but there are countless nooks and crannies that make every moment feel private and special.
Derwent Estate Vineyard
The views at Derwent Estate are simply unparalleled. Situated on a peninsula that extends into the Derwent River, this family-run vineyard offers 360-degree views of water, mountains, and meticulously maintained vines.
I’ve conducted ceremonies here where we’ve literally had to pause for a moment because the beauty of the setting was so overwhelming that everyone needed a moment to take it in. Their wines are exceptional too, which makes for a rather lovely bonus for your guests.
Bangor Vineyard Shed
Perched on a hillside overlooking Dunalley Bay, Bangor Vineyard Shed combines rugged coastal beauty with refined vineyard elegance. The modern shed-style building with its floor-to-ceiling windows frames the view perfectly, while outside ceremonies capture the essence of Tasmania’s east coast.
What stands out about Bangor is their commitment to storytelling – the property has a rich history that dates back to Abel Tasman’s first sighting of Tasmania. There’s something deeply meaningful about beginning your own story in a place so connected to the island’s origins.
Peppermint Bay
Waterfront weddings don’t get much better than Peppermint Bay in Woodbridge. Just a short drive from my home in the Huon Valley, this venue combines architectural excellence with one of the most stunning locations in southern Tasmania.
The pavilion’s glass walls bring the outside in, creating a seamless connection between your celebration and the breathtaking Channel views. For a truly unique arrival, couples can transport their guests via a cruise from Hobart – setting the tone for an unforgettable day before they even arrive.
Home Hill Winery
Home Hill Winery in Ranelagh (my local neighbourhood!) is a hidden gem in the Huon Valley. This family-owned vineyard produces some of Tasmania’s most awarded pinot noir, and their intimate venue reflects the same attention to detail.
The vineyard setting creates a beautiful backdrop for ceremonies, while the restaurant’s reputation for exceptional food means your guests will be talking about the meal for years to come. Being just minutes from my home, I might be a bit biased, but there’s something truly special about the quality of light in the Huon Valley that makes for extraordinary photos.
Pontville Distillery
For something different, Lark at Pontville offers industrial-chic elegance in a working whisky distillery. The historic buildings provide a unique backdrop that combines Tasmania’s colonial past with its craft-spirit future.
What makes Pontville special is its versatility – from intimate gatherings to larger celebrations, the spaces can be configured to create exactly the atmosphere you’re envisioning. Plus, having some of Australia’s finest whisky on hand for toasts adds a distinctly Tasmanian touch to proceedings.
Narryna Heritage Museum
For history lovers, Narryna Heritage Museum in Battery Point offers a glimpse into Tasmania’s colonial past. This 1830s merchant’s house provides a distinguished setting with its perfectly preserved interiors and charming garden.
Being just a stone’s throw from Hobart’s waterfront means you get the convenience of a city location with the character and charm of a heritage property. The garden is perfect for intimate ceremonies, while the house itself provides countless backdrops for stunning photos.
Tasmania truly offers some of the most spectacular wedding venues in Australia, if not the world. Each location brings its own unique character and charm, providing the perfect canvas for you to create your perfect day.
As someone who’s witnessed countless “I dos” across the globe, I can honestly say that the venues here in Tasmania offer something truly special. It’s not just about the stunning settings – though they are breathtaking – it’s about the authenticity and character that shines through in each location.
When you’re choosing your venue, remember that it’s not just about how it looks in photos (though that matters too). It’s about finding a place that feels right, that resonates with your story, and that will provide the perfect beginning to your marriage journey.
After all, where you choose to begin that journey matters. And here in Tasmania, you’re spoilt for choice.
