The Grounds of Alexandria
A lush, lux, intimate wedding venue in the heart of Sydney where city charm meets garden romance for a special Sydney wedding.
The Garden at The Grounds of Alexandria offers a one-of-a-kind blend of natural beauty and urban elegance, right in the heart of the city and it’s one of this Sydney celebrant’s favourites!
With its lush greenery, dappled light, and the hum of the city just beyond the gates, it’s a venue that brings a refreshing intimacy to a big celebration. The moment The Grounds becomes yours for the day, it truly transforms — the garden becomes a private haven surrounded by blooms, festoon lights, and the sound of laughter echoing through the vines.
My Experience Here
I’ve had the joy of marrying couples in The Garden at The Grounds and can honestly say it’s one of Sydney’s most romantic spots. There’s something so special about the way light filters through the canopy while still giving couples and their guests that tucked-away feeling. It’s intimate without being small — grand without being stuffy. A real gem for those big Sydney weddings.
Venue Highlights
- Private garden venues in a historic urban setting
- Lush landscaping and floral installations everywhere you look
- World-class catering with a focus on farm-to-table ingredients
- Onsite roastery and bakery – great for that post-ceremony espresso
- Exclusive use of the space during your booking
- Urban photo locations within and around the venue
Planning Tips
- Have clear signage and ushers to guide guests to the right wedding space — The Grounds has multiple event areas
- Parking is limited; strongly recommend advising guests to Uber or taxi
- The space suits both daytime and evening weddings beautifully, but consider golden hour timing for your ceremony to capture the best light, although check with your photographer so they have enough time to get what they need to meet your expectations
- Peak seasons book fast — get in early if you’re eyeing a weekend date in spring or autumn
- Accommodation options nearby range from boutique to luxury, but book ahead, especially during event seasons in Sydney
- My personal tip is to go for share plates, because they’re really good at The Grounds.
From Michael & Lisa:
The end to end experience with Married by Josh is fantastic. From our very first meeting with Josh (by video call, since we were in another city) we knew we were on the right track. Josh has an easy-going style, but really clearly knows the marriage business inside and out. So even though we were having plenty of laughs and enjoying ourselves, we were really confident that Josh would get the important bit (as in, the ceremony and marrying us) right.
Josh had plenty of great tips and suggestions to help us on our way, but was never pushy or ‘I know this better than you’. On the actual day, Josh was well presented and on time. He was already familiar with the venue from his extensive celebrant experience and since he had to come from Tasmania for our wedding we really appreciated his coming down the day before. The ceremony was great, with Josh hitting the note perfectly of ‘we are here to celebrate, and isn’t love really great and special.’
