Clyde Mill Distillery
A convict-built sandstone mill on the banks of the Clyde River in Tasmania's Central Highlands — historic, relaxed country weddings with exceptional food and their own whisky and gin.
Clyde Mill Distillery & Kitchen sits among open paddocks on the banks of the Clyde River in Tasmania’s Central Highlands. The convict-built sandstone mill and surrounding farmland offer a setting that feels timeless, relaxed, and unpretentious — this is a real working property, cared for by people who understand its past and protect its future.
Specialising in intimate weddings and elopements, Clyde Mill is designed for celebrations that feel personal rather than staged. From quiet ceremonies and long lunches to pre-wedding gatherings and relaxed drinks, the venue scales to what you actually want. For larger weddings, the surrounding grounds offer flexible venue hire with space for marquee celebrations — without losing the warmth and character of the place.
The mill is run day-to-day by Jayne and Andy, a husband-and-wife team with decades of experience in hospitality and events. Andy leads the kitchen with honest, generous cooking. Jayne oversees weddings and guest experience — ensuring your celebration runs smoothly, feels relaxed, and stays true to what matters.

Planning Tips
- Capacity: Indoor dining fits 50 for a sit-down; standing receptions can accommodate up to 150. Larger sit-down weddings require a marquee on the grounds.
- Ceremonies: Outdoor ceremonies are the norm — indoor space is limited. In poor weather, ceremonies can be shortened, adjusted, or held off-site before arrival.
- Curfew: All weddings conclude by 10:30pm.
- Accommodation: No on-site accommodation, but the venue team can point you toward local options in and around Bothwell.
- Transport: Pre-arranged guest transport is strongly recommended, particularly for evening events — Bothwell is a small town in the Highlands.
- Elopements: The Long Room elopement option is designed for small, meaningful celebrations of up to 18 guests, held alongside normal restaurant service — no need to close the whole venue.
- Drinks: This is a working distillery — whisky and gin tastings are available as add-ons, and the bar pours Clyde Mill’s own spirits all day.
